President George W. Bush, on March 16, March announced his intention to designate Thomas Neil Hull. III, of New Hampshire, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Sierra Leone.
This nomination is subject to the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate.
If confirmed, Mr. Hull would replace current U.S. Ambassador Peter Chaveas.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Thomas N. Hull has been the Deputy Chief of Mission at the America Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, since 200.
He has served overseas at US Embassies in Kinshasa, Ouagadougou, Mogadishu, Prague, Lagos, and twice in Pretoria.
Among his Washington assignments, Mr. Hull was Director of African Affairs at the U.S. Information Agency from 1991 to 1997.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Hull was a Peace Corps Volunteer primary school teacher in Sierra Leone from 1968 to 1970. While there, Mr. Hull met his wife Jill, also a Peace Corps Volunteer teacher.

Mr. Hull received two Master's Degree from Columbia University in international affairs and international education, and completed that university graduate program in African Studies. He earned his B.A. in history at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.
