Kristine Garman is a professional photographer based in Washington, D.C. She specializes in events, documentary photography, and photojournalism.
Born in Maryland and raised in Montana, Kristine's passion for photography began at the age of 13 when she first developed black and white prints at summer camp. After serving as chief photographer and editor of her high school yearbook, Kristine studied photography at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. Northwest provided a solid foundation in the technical aspects of photography with a focus on studio illustration, commercial portraiture, and photojournalism. In 1995, Kristine continued her studies at Salzburg College in Austria and spent the semester exploring Europe through her camera lens. After internships at Walt Disney World in Florida and the Museum of the Rockies in Montana, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Photography from Montana State University in 1998.
Her strong desire to travel and experience other cultures prompted Kristine to join the Peace Corps in 1998. She set off for Bulgaria, where she taught English and created an English language library for her school with a grant from the United States Agency for International Development. Kristine documented this amazing experience of life in Bulgaria through photographs, many of which were selected for use in Peace Corps publications such as the Bulgaria Welcome Book.
Since her return to the United States in 2000, Kristine has worked at the Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C., performing a multitude of tasks that includes writer, editor, and photographer of special events. She recently captured the Peace Corps' historic 40th anniversary celebration in Washington, D.C., as chief photographer of conference events for the National Peace Corps Association.
