Pakistan and Fiji RPCV Kathryn "Kaybee" (Cook) Bowen dies in Rhode Island

KATHRYN ''KAYBEE" (COOK) BOWEN, 72, a retired teacher and business owner, died Saturday, surrounded by her family, at Mayflower Place Nursing Center, in Yarmouth, Mass.

She was the wife of the late Edward S. Bowen Jr. Born in Providence on Aug. 24, 1931, she had also lived in Vermont, Pakistan and Fiji before moving to Yarmouth.

She was a graduate of Rhode Island College.

Mrs. Bowen had owned and operated Kaybee's of Providence, a clothing boutique, before she retired. She also had been a first- grade teacher, at the Auburn Elementary School, for 14 years.

A former Peace Corps volunteer, she served in Pakistan and Fiji.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 36, in Ludlow, Vt.

Mrs. Bowen's love of travel had taken her to many places around the world, including Australia, China, Russia, New Zealand and its Cook Islands, Borneo, and Vietnam.

She leaves two sons, Edward S. Bowen III of Ludlow, Vt., and Gregory F. Bowen of Tuftonboro, N.H.; and a grandson, Kenneth E. Bowen of Norwich, Conn. She was the sister of the late Robert Cook.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Doane, Beal & Ames, Hyannis, Mass.
