SOLOMON ISLANDS SEEK U.S. AID

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, April 20) - Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United States Collin Beck has asked the United States to help the struggling Pacific country in its recovery process.

Mr Beck made the request when he presented his credentials to the U.S. President Bush recently in Washington.

He sought U.S. support and assistance from the Millennium Challenge Account to help Solomon Islands in its Economic Recovery and Reform framework.

Mr Beck also called for the re-engagement of Peace Corps in Solomon Islands now that the security situation has improved.

In his reply, President Bush said the establishment of the Millennium Challenge Account signifies United States' new approach to development.

He assured the Solomon Islands ambassador that Peace Corps will be reengaged in Solomon islands at the appropriate time.
