K-State employees, spouses to join Peace Corps

Adam Springer, K-State biology lab technician, and Stephanie Springer, K-State program assistant (study abroad adviser) for international programs, will join the Peace Corps and leave for the South Pacific Islands in June.

Adam will be studying environmental education, with an emphasis on water sanitation, and Stephanie will be working in the health extension.

The Springers both graduated from K-State in December 2002. Adam received a degree in horticulture with a secondary major in natural resources and environmental science and a minor in biology. Stephanie received a degree in speech communication and anthropology.

They both studied abroad during their college education at K-State. Adam traveled to the Netherlands and Costa Rica on a group study tour with the horticulture club and Stephanie traveled to Czech Republic. These experiences sparked an interest in international affairs and also living abroad, Stephanie said.

"We began looking for programs that would meet these interests and also allow us to do community service. The Peace Corps program fit these criteria to a tee," she said.
