AZERBAIJAN FOR EXPANSION OF COOPERATION WITH UNITED STATES
PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES DELEGATION OF US PEACE CORPS

President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev received on 30 April the delegation led by director of the US Peace Corps Gaddy Vasquez.

President Ilham Aliyev gave high assessment to the program being realized jointly with the US Peace Corps in the humanitarian, education and other fields in the Country. He estimated these programs as another direction of successfully developing cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan. Head of the Azerbaijani state thanked to the US Peace Corps for activity in the Republic and wished success to members of the Corps.

Also participating was at the meeting the US ambassador to Azerbaijan Mr. Reno Harnish who, addressing President Ilham Aliyev, said: ?Mr. President, first, I congratulate You with your statement in Strasbourg. Your statement once again demonstrated Your particular attention to cooperation with Europe and the United States and was duly estimated?.

The Ambassador said that the Peace Corps is supported by the US President George Bush and comprises mainly American volunteers. Large activity of this US-backed program in Azerbaijan is evidence to what particular importance the United States attaches to cooperation with the people and state of Azerbaijan.

President Ilham Aliyev reminded that bilateral relations between the two countries are high level and the United States greatly promotes development of economy, in particular, the energy and communication projects of Azerbaijan. The United States has special role in safety and cooperation issues in the region, in development of the Caspian energy resources, President of Azerbaijan stressed. Azerbaijan wishes expansion of cooperation with US, especially in the humanitarian and education fields. Head of State, in particular, stressed that a new generation has been formed in Azerbaijan. We want this young generation to actively take part in the ongoing world processes and know English well. This is one of the necessary aspects of education.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence in the Peace Corps programs and wished them further success.

Director of the US Peace Corps Gaddy Vasquez updated the President of Azerbaijan on the activity of the Organization. The Organization was founded by John Kennedy and contributes development of cooperation between numerous countries and nations, as well as mutual understanding between cultures, he said. Beside humanitarian and education programs, the Peace Corps renders assistance to entrepreneurship and application of modern technologies.

Finally, Mr. Gaddy Vasque expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for provided conditions in the Republic and hospitality they were shown.

Head of the foreign relations department of President Administration Novruz Mammadov took part at the reception.
