Artistic Directors 40th Anniversary Forum
The four artistic directors of Hartford Stage - Jacques Cartier, Paul Weidner, Mark Lamos, and Michael Wilson - will appear together for the first time ever at the theatre on Saturday, May 1, 11AM, to host a question and answer forum discussing 40 years of Hartford Stage history.
Free and open to the public, the forum promises to offer unique and historic perspectives on the founding and development of Hartford Stage, along with insights into the future of the theatre. The discussion will be moderated by Hartford Courant theatre columnist and Variety critic Frank Rizzo. The participants:
Paul Weidner, artistic director from 1968 to 1980, came to Hartford from New York, where he worked extensively as an actor and stage manager. He and Hartford Stage were recipients of the 1974 Margo Jones award. Directly after leaving Hartford Stage, Weidner served for two years in Africa in the Peace Corps. Currently an acclaimed freelance director, Weidner works steadily at theatres around the country and enjoys a long-term relationship with the Asolo Theatre in Florida. He is on the faculty of the Tisch School at New York University, where he serves as a resident director and sometime instructor. Weidner will have his first novel, Memoirs of a Dwarf:In the Court of the Sun King, published this fall.
