Biography:
Dr. Strand started working in the Division of Biostatistics at National Jewish Medical and Research Center in September 2001. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at UCLA, where he taught a number of lower and upper division undergraduate statistics courses. Dr. Strand received his Ph.D. in statistics from Kansas State University in 1998. His current research stems from his dissertation work, which involves a branch of statistics known as order-restricted inference. He has developed tests and estimation methods for a set of means that are assumed to have a particular order. His methods have been applied to data from biological and biomedical sciences, as well as data from a variety of other fields. Dr. Strand has a strong background in teaching. Most of the classes that he has taught involve statistics at the collegiate level. He also taught math, science and geography at the junior high and high school levels while serving in the Peace Corps in Lesotho, Africa. In addition, Dr. Strand has been a statistical consultant on a number of projects within the past five years.
