Fifteen years ago, Dr. Alan and Helen Marston of Tenants Harbor traveled to Morocco as part of a special, one-year Peace Corps program for veterinarians, Helen Marston told me.

Today, they are trying to form a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer group in this area, and have planned an RPCV potluck lunch for noon Sunday, May 16, at the home of Debby and Chuck Paine on Glenmere Road in Tenants Harbor.

"There is quite an active group in Portland," Marston said, "but that is a little far for us to go."

The Marstons, both 71, "think it would be nice" to have a group "in this area because there is nothing between Portland and Bangor," and she knows many people volunteered while at Bates, Colby or the University of Maine.

"We don't know what form it will take" or where it will meet, she said of the group, but they hope those attending will help make those decisions.

Future volunteers are also welcome. If you would like to "bring a dish or something to share," it would be appreciated.

An RSVP is not necessary, but would be helpful in getting an approximate head count.

For more information and directions, call Marston at 372-8494 or e-mail hlmaim@midcoast.com.
