Saint Mary's Alumna Offers First-hand Account of Life in War-torn Afghanistan
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Saint Mary's College invites the community to hear a lunchtime talk by Leslie Wilson, a 1976 graduate now working in Kabul, Afghanistan for Save the Children. The lecture is at noon this Friday, Dec. 5 in Stapleton Lounge, Le Mans Hall.
Wilson, a former Peace Corps worker in Thailand and Moldova, will provide a first-hand account of the status of women, education and development in war-torn Afghanistan. Save the Children was founded in the United States in 1932 as a non-profit child assistance organization. Today, Save the Children serves 19 states in this country as well as 47 other countries in the developing world. The organization's goal is to help children and families improve their health, education and economic situation.
Friday’s presentation is sponsored by the Saint Mary's College Alumnae Relations Office, the Center for Women's InterCultural Leadership and the Saint Mary's Justice Education Program as part of the global observance of “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.” Beverages and dessert will be provided.
