Wenda Christopher, the new Big Spring High School assistant principal, admits to having an adventurous heart and now that heart is calling her to Big Spring.

"I'm excited about the job," Christopher said. "I think it will be a great opportunity for me and I hope that I can learn and grow with the students and the community as well as share a lot with them."

Big Spring Independent School District trustees approved Christopher's hiring during a special meeting Tuesday. She was hired on a 12-month contract with an annual salary of $56,252.

Originally from Lubbock, Christopher graduated from Texas Tech University and brings 18 years of education experience to the position. She has served as an assistant principal at Crockett Junior High School in Odessa for the past three years.

"I'm a teacher at heart and I also have an adventurous, wanderlust spirit," Christopher said, noting she served in the Peace Corps, teaching in Brazil and the Philippines.

"She is very student-centered, very energetic and willing to do what it takes to get the job done," said Assistant Superintendent Rey Villarreal. "She will be a very good addition to the high school staff."
