Fred Norbury appointed Forest Service deputy chief

WASHINGTON (07/20/04) -- Fred Norbury has been appointed associate deputy chief for the national forest system by Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth. Norbury replaces Gail Kimbell who moved to the agency’s Northern Region (Missoula, Mont.) as regional forester.
Norbury previously served as the national director of ecosystem management coordination, a position he has held since 2001. Prior to 2001, Norbury was director of ecosystem planning and budget in the Alaska Region for the Forest Service for 12 years. He also had previous assignments in the agency’s Washington Office on the policy analysis and land management planning staffs.

Norbury is a graduate of Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also has a master’s degree in public policy from Princeton University and a master’s degree in forestry from the University of California. He served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala prior to his Forest Service career.

Norbury assumes his new duties immediately.
