Fred Poses is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), a position he assumed in 2004. Poses, a member of NCLD's Board of Directors since 1999, and its senior vice chairman since 2001, is the fourth person to hold the chairmanship since NCLD's founding in 1977.
Mr. Poses is the chairman and chief executive officer of American Standard Companies Inc. American Standard, a Fortune 500 company, specializes in air conditioning systems and services, bath and kitchen products, and vehicle control systems. Prior to joining American Standard in January 2000, Mr. Poses was president and chief operating officer of AlliedSignal, Inc. He joined AlliedSignal as a financial analyst in 1969 and was named general manager of the company's Home Furnishings Division in 1977. He was subsequently promoted to positions with increasing responsibility and was named president of the Engineered Materials Sector and executive vice president of the corporation in 1988. In October 1997, he was elected to the Board of Directors and named vice chairman of AlliedSignal Inc. Mr. Poses was appointed president and COO in June 1998.
Before joining AlliedSignal, Mr. Poses spent two years on assignment in Peru with the Peace Corps. He holds a B.A. from New York University.
Mr. Poses and his wife, Nancy, have two children. His experiences with his son's learning disability have shaped his involvement with NCLD and Eagle Hill School, where he is an active volunteer and board member. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Centex Corporation, Raytheon Company, and the 92nd Street Y as well as on the Board of Visitors for Duke University.
