Name: Laura Whitmore.
Job: Parks community relations coordinator for the city of Madison.
What I like best about my job: Working with neighborhoods on volunteer and fund-raising projects; visiting the 249 parks in Madison.
What I like least about it: Working with people who have the NIMBY (not in my back yard) attitude.
My best boss taught me: It's best to lead by example.
My worst boss taught me: That I cannot work well where my personality is not allowed to shine.
I work best: When the expectations are clear and I'm given the freedom to work on the job.

madison.com weather: our doppler can beat up their doppler
Education/experience: B.A. in international relations from UW-Madison; served in Poland with the Peace Corps.
Birthplace/home town: Neenah.
Where I live: Madison.
Age: 35.
Family: Husband, Martin. We are expecting our first child in December.
Person outside my family I most admire: A group of people: my college roommates. For the past 17 years we have remained close friends, supporting each other through the good and the bad. Every one of us has been successful.
My real passion is: Traveling (especially through Europe) and rock climbing.
Favorite place to go for enjoyment: A fun, local tavern for a Packers game.
Music, munchies and mantra that get me through the day: What gets me through the day is my daily workout over the lunch hour.
Most valuable lesson I've learned: Don't let your life get into a rut. Get outside and enjoy the day.
Looking at me you'd never guess:I've climbed Devil's Tower in Wyoming, hitch-hiked in Europe, and if I were allowed to own only one album it would be "Live Bullet" by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
