Eastern Kentucky Native in Grenada
A Peace Corps volunteer from Kentucky was in Grenada when Hurricane Ivan came trough.
Emily Hearn is from Morehead. She has been in Grenada for seven months. Her mother Jane says Emily was in a concrete house durring the storm with several other volunteers. She says her daughter told her it was very scary during the storm. After the storm when they went out to look at the damage, many of the homes were destroyed. Most were missing exterior walls.
Jane heard from Emily late Thursday night. She says they are gathering fruit and supplies to take to a nearby village that has run out of supplies.
Right now Emily says there is no electricity or running water on the entire island.
Jane says she doesn't know how long Emily will be in Grenada.

Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
