ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada -- The Peace Corps is checking on three volunteers in Grenada -- who haven't been heard from since Hurricane Ivan hit the Caribbean island.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Barbados, a Peace Corps official is taking a boat today to a remote northern area of Grenada, to find the volunteers.

Most of the homes on Grenada suffered heavy damage from the storm. Twenty-two people on the island were killed.
More than 100 Caribbean soldiers have arrived on the island to help restore order -- and more are on the way.
Looting has broken out in the capital -- and people are reportedly being terrorized by prisoners who escaped from an old prison destroyed by the storm.

| Schwarzenegger praises PC at Convention Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
