Uncompromised justice is vital
[Excerpt]
IT is indeed good news that while in Washington, our Foreign Minister Sir Rabbie Namaliu, has had talks with the US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Mr Powell, an influential part of the George W Bush administration, and Sir Rabbie discussed Bougainville and the developments on the island, and other international and regional security issues.
It may be that Iraq did not form a part of that dialogue, but if it did, we expect that Sir Rabbie would have re-iterated PNG's stance on the issue, in line with the firm non-engagement policy determined by his PM, Sir Michael Somare.
Of more immediate interest would have been the possibility of reviving the Fullbright Scholarship programme in PNG, and of our country once again hosting the US Peace Corps, a volunteer equivalent to the more familiar VSO and AVI organisations.
More informed and comprehensive relations between the USA and PNG have the potential to be to the benefit of both, and to the region.

| Schwarzenegger praises PC at Convention Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
