TechnoServe, Inc. Chairman Paul E. Tierney, Jr. has that Bruce McNamer, 41, will become President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization effective November 1.
"Bruce McNamer comes to TechnoServe with strong personal contacts, a great respect for TechnoServe's accomplishments, and the drive to make even greater things happen," said Tierney.
"His achievements in the private sector, track record of involvement with non-profit organizations, and interest in international development all make Bruce uniquely qualified to lead TechnoServe and help our organization achieve its full potential."
McNamer comes to the position with a breadth of both private and public sector experience. Prior to joining TechnoServe, McNamer was COO of Verified Identity Pass, Inc., CFO of Appfluent Technology, and VP of Business Development at VarsityBooks.com. McNamer served as a White House Fellow and Director at the National Economic Council in 1998-1999.
Prior to the White House, he worked as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley and as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. McNamer was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay from 1990-1992.
A native of Montana, he has an AB from Harvard, and a JD/MBA from Stanford.
TechnoServe is a 36-year-old non-profit organization focusing on economic development in Africa and Latin America. Its mission is to help entrepreneurial men and women in poor rural areas of the developing world build businesses that create income, opportunity and economic growth for their families, communities and countries.
It has a big presence in Ghana.
In accepting the top management position of the organization, McNamer said, "I am thrilled at the opportunity to join the team at TechnoServe.

McNamer is only the third person to lead TechnoServe. Founder Ed Bullard was CEO from 1968 to 1996. He was succeeded by Peter Reiling, recently named Executive Vice President for International and Policy Programs at the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C. On behalf of TechnoServe, both were recognized as among the world's most "Outstanding Social Entrepreneurs" for 2004 by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Among other benefits, TechnoServe is invited to attend the annual World Economic Forum of business and political leaders in Davos, Switzerland.
McNamer will lead TechnoServe's worldwide staff of 300 from the organization's Washington D.C. office. TechnoServe is funded by the United States Agency for International Development, the United States Department of Agriculture, the World Bank, foreign governments, foundations, corporations, and thousands of individual donors.
Many of its activities are undertaken with the support of such global enterprises as Cargill, McKinsey & Company, Monsanto, Peet's Coffee & Tea, and The Procter & Gamble Company.
