Shays Responds to Negative Attacks in Final Ads of Campaign
With five days to go until Election Day, incumbent Republican Rep. Christopher Shays released a final round of campaign television ads that respond directly to negative attacks by his Democratic opponent, Westport First Selectwoman Diane G. Farrell.
“Chris’ entire campaign has been about sharing his record with voters and focusing on a positive message about his independence and effectiveness,” said Michael Sohn, Shays for Congress campaign manager.
He said Shays is using the last few days of his campaign to get the word out about his endorsements by three of the most important papers to readers in southwest Connecticut -- The New York Times, The Advocate of Stamford and the Hartford Courant.
Shays released two radio spots and two television ads. The radio ads will air on WCBS, WFAN, WICC, WGCH and WSTC. The television ads will appear on the four cable stations in Fairfield County and WTNH.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani is featured in one radio ad while Shays’ television ad discusses the recent endorsements which refute Farrell’s attacks.
There was no immediate comment from the Farrell campaign on the Shays ads or details on her media spending for the final days of the campaign.
Farrell has received the endorsement of only one daily newspaper serving the district, the Connecticut Post.
Meanwhile, both camps were making preparations to await the election results Tuesday night. Farrell was hosting supporters at the Inn at Longshore in Westport while Shays was doing the same at the Norwalk Inn.
