Steve Larkin
Coach Steve Larkin is entering is fifth year at the helm of the Pirates. His record is 73-46. Larkin learned the game on the beach in Southern California. He began coaching at Mendocino High School when the local girls came down to the beach and asked. After 16 years he moved on to the college ranks, becoming an assistant at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, for both Men and Women. Moving to NCAA Division II, Larkin led Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida before moving back to California and taking the Modesto JC position.
Modesto JC volleyball is respected for their hard play and mental toughness. "I have been fortunate to have excellent local players," says Larkin. "The support from the administration, from my colleagues and from good assistants is why volleyball here at MJC has flourished. I am lucky to be here."
Larkin is a graduate of UCSB and was a Peace Corps volunteer. He has taught ceramics for College of the Redwoods, psychology for the School of Public Health, UC Berkeley, and been a trainer for the National Training Institute, focusing on substance abuse issues in schools. He is the owner/artist of the Mendocino Sink Works: www.customsink.com He has a son, Jonah, who owns Gone Surfing in Rohnert Park, California.
