Richard Turbin: Law firm founder will lead the 4,300-member association for one year

The new president of the 4,300-member Hawaii State Bar Association has put out a call for a "renaissance of idealism" among attorneys and would like to see more collaboration with international bar associations.

Honolulu attorney Richard Turbin was sworn in Friday at the association's annual dinner and fund-raiser, which also benefited Ka Hale Ho'ala Hou No Na Wahine, a transitional residential program for women leaving the women's prison.

Turbin's one-year term begins Jan. 5.

Regarding his appointment, Turbin said, "I look forward to utilizing my experience, legal training and, perhaps most importantly, my idealism in serving as president of the HSBA in the coming year. We need to spread our own magic in the community by a renaissance of idealism to serve those who need assistance."

He also added that now is the right time to move the Hawaii bar association into the international sphere.

Turbin has already established contacts to include an Asian-Pacific focus in the annual bar convention, working with bar associations around the Pacific Rim.

Turbin is the founder and president of the Law Offices of Richard Turbin, which specializes in personal injury, wrongful death and malpractice.

Turbin received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1969 and was named a Traphagen Distinguished Alumni in 2002. He was a former Peace Corps lawyer in Samoa and former Honolulu deputy public defender, and he founded the Kaneohe office for the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii.

He has served as a Civil Rights Commission member since 2002, president of the Consumer Lawyers of Hawaii from 2002 to 2003 and chairman of the Kahala Neighborhood Board for 12 years.

!HEMP FOR VICTORY!

Democrates, and Republicans are tearing this country appart piece by piece, Lincoln was quoted as saying "A nation devided against itself will cannot stand. This incredable explosion of hostility amoungst our friends, neighbors, even family. Right or Left it's has a good base but both went in the wrong direction and are now becoming what were currently fighting extremist. This approach and narrow-mindedness is as logical as the blind leading the blind. Both canidates are becoming increasingly similar almost to the point of twins fighting over a toy, the sad reality is that the toy they"re strugeling over is real human life, not just in the U.S. not were the news cameras can get the most tear drenching, bowl moving story, but places that no one cares about & no one ever will till the day arises when only 1000 of there people remain so while you protes the war brought to you every night by your U.S, BBC, or an other new/old news herald, remmeber this. As written by an author I think has a good/evil perspective on the wrold. It goes something like this" Stoping war is like stoping an ice burg" I have a good idea that this is true war will come war will go, weither it was mislead information or an attack agianst us or an ally, it doesnt matter it will happen. Well I digress. I'd like to address the topic of protesting, how degreading it has become one man gathered hundreds of thousands of people in our nations capital knocking on the door of the core of the republic, our generation has most definetly droped the ball on this due to the simple fact that people more than half the time would take an increase in laws, and an encroachment on there own freedom for the illusion of saftey, U.S. Citizens it's time that we took charge of our country to take democracy to another level take our civilization to another step of greater achievement. The ones to attack against are the big corparations. Check out your local community how many walmarst do you have, wells fargos, starbucks, BP, Amaco, Best buy...ect. Fight these's and the rest will follow, this I can promise. One final Word HEMP FOR VICTORY
