PRESS RELEASE
November 17, 2004
Peace Corps Bulgaria has the pleasure of inviting you to the official launching of its Youth Development program on 19th November (Friday), 2004, at 11 am, at the National Children’s Palace in Sofia. Never has it seemed so vital to support Bulgaria’s young people as they cope with a rapidly changing environment and Peace Corps can play an important role. Please join us as we present our strategy to representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and our colleagues and partners from non-profit organizations working in field.
The presented product is a one-year long effort of Peace Corps and our local partners to develop a philosophy and goals that are relevant to the Bulgarian environment and needs. We believe that all members of a community must work together for the development of young people into healthy, responsible, and caring adults and Peace Corps intends to be part of that process.
Peace Corps is a US government agency established in 1961 to encourage peace and understanding among people, by sending volunteers to live and work among ordinary people in the host countries. The organization starts its work in Bulgaria in 1991 after signing an agreement with the Bulgarian government. Currently there are 174 volunteers, 25 of them work in the Youth Development program.
