National Nicaragua Network to meet in Santa Cruz

The annual National Leadership Meeting of the Nicaragua Network will be hosted by Three Americas, Inc. of Santa Cruz on Dec. 4-5. The two-day conference will be held in the facilities of International Health Programs, 210 High St., Santa Cruz. The theme "A Better World is Possible" will run through all of the presentations and discussions.
The NLM is open to anyone interested in Nicaragua solidarity or in how the issues to be presented are playing out among the people of North, Central and South America.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 4. Cost is $50, $25 for Santa Cruz County residents, and includes continental breakfasts and some meals. Individuals or representatives of committees or organizations are welcome.
U.S. Representative Sam Farr will be a principal participant on Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on ways to educate congress on solidarity and immigration issues in the present political climate.
On Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., a special Latino dinner event will be held in conjunction with the conference. It will be a multicultural and multimedia gathering at the Live Oak Grange at 1900 17th Ave. in Santa Cruz. The gathering will celebrate the idea that a better world is possible.
Photographer Orin Langelle of Burlington, Vt., will be on hand with his exhibit titled, "Corporate Globalization versus Global Justice." Robin Lloyd of Green Valley Media will present the premiere of her latest production, "We Have Other Plans: Community-Based Alternative Developments." Recording artist Paul Baker Hernandez of Nicaragua will play the songs of social justice by Chilean martyr Victor Jara.
Admission to the Dec. 4 festivities is on a sliding scale of $7.50 to $15. Funds collected over the expenses of the dinner will be donated for relief of the victims of the four hurricanes, which hit the Caribbean basin this year.
