1970: Laura Andrus served in Afghanistan in Lashkar Gah beginning in 1970
Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Laura Andrus can be contacted at Andruslaaoldcom
Country of Service: Afghanistan
Training Group: ??
Cities you served in: Lashkar Gah
Arrival Year: 1970
Departure Year: 1972
Work Description: TEFL
Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:
I've been in high tech all these years. I'm hoping to
get back to helping
people after I retire. I think going back to
Afghanistan would be a fabulous
contribution.
Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps
days?:
It was an experience I'll never regret. And lately I've
been humbled by the
opportunities to bring fellow Americans in touch with
the real Afghanistan
instead of the place they read about in the news.
Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:
I was Laura Shea in Afghanistan. My husband Kevin, who
accompanied me
on the adventure, passed away in 1987. I'd love to hear
from anybody
who was there with me or not. Talking about Afghanistan
helps ease the
pain of seeing what's happened to it over the years.
Any message for returned volunteers?:
Don't stop volunteering. It keeps you young. It keeps
you involved. And it
keeps you from agonizing over the small stuff life
presents.
