Some Profiles of M.P.A.-International Development Graduates - Jason M. Julian served as a youth development Peace Corps volunteer in the town of Orangewalk in northern Belize. In his work with the Peace Corps. Mr. Julian organized recreation and sports programs for youth and young adults.

Jason M. Julian's most recent international service has been as an international election monitor in Bosnia and, scheduled for the spring of 1997, in Liberia. He currently works as a campus liaison with the California State University Office of Federal Relations. In his spare time, Mr. Julian volunteers with Greater D.C. Cares and at the Casa del Pueblo & the Latin American Youth Center in Washington, D.C.

7..131%?. career in service began with his entry into the Rutgers M.P.A. / I.D.A. program in 199~. As a student in the program, Mr. Julian and his classmates performed community service work in the city of Camden. Following a year of intensive study in international community development at Rutgers, Mr. Julian served as a youth development Peace Corps volunteer in the town of Orangewalk in northern Belize. In his work with the Peace Corps. Mr. Julian organized recreation and sports programs for youth and young adults.

"The Peace Corps experience sharpened my skills in working with different ethnic and cultural groups," Mr. Julian said. "The program as a whole exposed me to many new things, and allowed me to focus my career direction toward specific policy areas."

In addition, the Rutgers M.P.A. / I.D.A. program "made me a more marketable job candidate in the Public Administration field," he said.

"I believe that the (M.P.A. / I.D.A.) students should spend as much time as possible working in hands-on grassroots community development efforts while they are on campus in Camden," Mr. Julian added. "This experience will be greatly beneficial to their later field work (in international development), and the problems and challenges facing the Camden communities present an excellent simulation model for the developing world."

Crisis Corps arrives in Thailand After the Tsunami in Southeast Asia last December, Peace Corps issued an appeal for Crisis Corps Volunteers and over 200 RPCVs responded. RPCVs in Congress ask colleagues to support PC RPCVs Sam Farr, Chris Shays, Thomas Petri, James Walsh, and Mike Honda have asked their colleagues in Congress to add their names to a letter they have written to the House Foreign Operations Subcommittee, asking for full funding of $345 M for the Peace Corps in 2006. As a follow-on to Peace Corps week, please read the letter and call your Representative in Congress and ask him or her to add their name to the letter.
