Barbara Chay of Hobart, IN, formerly of The Pullman Historic District of Chicago, was born November 17, 1945 and passed away April 2, 2005 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Cooper.
She is survived by her father, Richard Cooper of Cincinnati, OH, a twin brother, Todd (Cindy) Hillman of Lenexa, KS and a sister, Polly (Jack) Manges of Bremen, IN. Barb also cherished her extended family which included Lori Kynch of Hawaii, Lawrence, Andrew and Elliott Chay, all of the Chicago area, and their families. Barb genuinely touched others by her enthusiasm for life, positive mental attitude, and her kindness to others. Barb earned her Bachelors Degree from William Woods College in Fulton, MO where she was president of her sorority, Alpha Phi, as well as president of the College Government Association. She served for three years in the Peace Corps in Jamaica. For the last 23 years she was employed by Northwestern Memorial Hospital in various capacities. Her desire to help others was exemplified by her decision to donate her body to medical research. A 'Celebration of Life' memorial service will be held on April 22nd at 11 a.m. at North-western Memorial Hospital in the 3rd Floor Conference Center, 251 E. Huron, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northwestern Foundation Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 676 N. St. Clair, Suite 2050, Chicago, IL 60611.

 | Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
