OBIT - DOSS, JULIAN SIDNEY JR., (BUDDY)
Apr 22, 2005 - Roanoke Times
Julian Sidney (Buddy) Doss, Jr., of Lovell, Wyoming, passed away March 31, 2005 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by parents, Julian Sidney and Lillian McClanahan Doss. He is survived by daughter, Erin Sydney Doss; grandson, Phoenix Julian Doss; brothers, Maxie Doss, Coleman Doss and wife, Toni; and niece, Lauren Myers Doss, all of Roanoke. In addition, there are numerous cousins and many friends. A Craig County native, he was a 1965 graduate of New Castle High School and a 1976 graduate of Va. Tech's School of Forestry and Wildlife. He attended the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute in Daytona Beach, Florida from 1968 to 1969 after his military service.
He also served as a forestry consultant to the Solomon Islands government through the Peace Corps from 1986 to 1987. Bud was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Army with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division from 1965-67 and was awarded a combat Purple Heart citation. He loved the outdoors which led him into his career field of forestry, serving with the U.S. Forest Service and in private employment in several states. Assignments had taken him to Arkansas, New Mexico and Arizona, which inspired him to eventually settle in the American West. This he did in 2001 when he became a Wyoming resident.
A memorial service and family visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle, Va., with friend and former classmate John R. Elmore, Minister, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, National Service Foundation, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

| Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
