Work Description:
Teacher of English in primary school Atse Libna Dingel, history at secondary school Ethiopian Evangelical College, and various subjects at university extension center of Haile Sellassie I University, of which I was also the administrator.
Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:
Graduate school--Columbia University, Ph.D. in Russian and East European history; ultimately professor at University of Illinois at Chicago, where I taught Polish and East European history until I retired in 2001.
Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:
It's a cliche, but those were some of the best days of my life, and I look back on them with a great deal of affection and nostalgia.
Any message for returned volunteers?:
Revisiting Ethiopia was a great experience after nearly 40 years--depressing because of the existing problems but revitalizing one's interest in and love of the people and the country.
