Doyle not worried about competition
by Jackie Johnson
Despite early criticisms from a potential challenger in the '06 elections, Governor Jim Doyle doesn't seem worried. US Representative Mark Green (R-Green Bay) blames Governor Doyle for Wisconsin's high tax burden, saying taxes, spending, borrowing, debt, tuition and fees are all up under Doyle's watch. Those comments don't seem to phase the governor. "Look, we're gonna have months of a campaign in September of '06 and we'll talk about the record. The fact is, I was handed the ... just a terrible budget mess after 16 years of Republican rule."
Governor Doyle defends his record, saying the state economy as moved in the right direction under his Grow Wisconsin plan. He says it's too early to worry about defending himself against his challengers' accusations when the primary hasn't even taken place. "But, there'll be plenty of time. This is ... My God ... this is a year and a half until the election and most people are still focused on the things that are really important in their lives. And I'm gonna continue to work to make sure that we keep Wisconsin moving in the right direction. We'll have a good political campaign in the fall of '06 when people are paying attention."
Although Doyle hasn't yet made any formal announcement, he does intend to run for reelection. The governor giggles, "I would expect I'll be on the ballot."

It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
