The Land Preservation Society of Norton has scheduled two related events for May. The first is its annual meeting, when Norton Conservation Director Jennifer Carlino will talk about vernal pools. The second is a walk in the Woodward Forest that includes visits to two very different vernal pools. Both events are open to nonmembers with an interest in nature.
[Excerpt]
Jennifer Carlino will then give a slide-illustrated talk on "Amphibian Night Clubs: What we find in Norton's Vernal Pools." Carlino has been Norton's Conservation Director since 1999. Before that she was Conservation Assistant in Billerica and from 1995 to 1997 was a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. She is a specialist in vernal pools, helping Norton certify many of these temporary bodies of water that are essential to amphibians. She is also chair of the Hopedale Conservation Commission and a rare plant monitoring volunteer with the New England Wildflower Society.

Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong
170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community.
