Visas Chapter 21
[Excerpt]
It’s an ongoing problem. My visa expires on June 1st. The Peace Corps along with the Ambassador has sent a Diplomatic Note to the ministry of foreign affairs requesting all UZ 18 volunteers receive visas for the next two years. If the letter has no response by this week I will most likely be headed back to America. I would have to be out of the country by the first and out of my host site by the middle/end of the week...probably. I am having some mixed emotions about all of this, I cried coming here and when I leave there will definitely be some tears in my eyes.
We are all placing bets, making predictions, over analyzing every single word from the country director, planning what our first meals will be, fantasizing about things like target, baseball games, washing machines, malls, driving,..…at least we are entertaining ourselves
Kjestine, Jesse, and I decided to become tourists for the day and roam the old city in Khiva. We made deals, got ripped off by vendors, bought souvenirs for our family and friends, climbed the minarets, took stupid pictures…it was a great day to get over the stress of actually thinking about packing up and going home. We finished the day by meeting Brad, Zain, and Katherine at the hotel pool. The only tan thing about me when I showed up was my forearms and face, four sizzling hours of pool time changed that…or it will when the burn cools down.
So maybe in a week I will be chillin back at home at my own pool…or I will be in Khiva once again soaking up the powerful Uzbek sun…either way I will be happy. Dad make sure the pool is ready just in case I won't be home for long though…I still plan to pack up and try again somewhere else.

| Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
