I just heard on NPR that Niger is undergoing a very serious food shortage, and 3.6 million of the 12 million residents are facing starvation. I guess two weeks ago the UN issued an emergency request for $16 million to secure food for the famine-affected regions, but so far no countries have responded to this request. This is very concerning news. I was wondering whether there is an effort among Niger RPCVs to increase public awareness of this issue and encourage Congress to dedicate some aid money. Is anyone aware of such an effort?
