Betsy Hipple has been named women's softball coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, athletic director Mike Sutton confirmed. Hipple comes to Southern California from another Division III school, Hunter College in New York, where she spent five seasons.
Hipple led Hunter to City University of New York Athletic Conference titles in 2002, 2003 and 2005 as well as CUNYAC tournament titles in 2001, 2002 and 2003. She was named conference coach of the year three times.
Hipple also has designed business simulations for corporate executives in outdoor, experienced-based settings. She has worked with adjudicated youth in early intervention wilderness programs and served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in the mid-1990s.
Hipple was one of three finalists for the position which drew 75 applicants.
"We had a lot of very qualified applicants, many whom we were not able to bring in, so we feel fortunate," Sutton said.
Hipple replaces Andrea Kenney, who resigned to take a similar position starting up the softball program at Division II Cal State Monterey Bay of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

| Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
