SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter (ARCBA) CEO, Harold Brooks, today announced the appointment of Harris C. Bostic II as director of "Prepare Bay Area," a three-year preparedness campaign, which has as its key corporate sponsor, Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Bostic, who has been responsible for recruiting thousands of volunteers serving in more than 70 nations, managing budgets for leading non-profits including the Peace Corps, the Olympic Assistance/USIA Program and Habitat for Humanity, and reviewing hundreds of nationwide community grant proposals targeting public safety, environment, education and unmet human needs, will take the lead in ensuring that Bay Area residents are prepared in the event of a major disaster.


"Bostic comes to us with a wealth of experience, including the skills to cost-effectively reach and motivate thousands of volunteers," said Brooks. "His experience will be invaluable in accomplishing the goals of 'Prepare Bay Area,' which include motivating at least one million people to make a safety plan, build a kit of emergency supplies and get training in CPR or First Aid, so that they are better prepared to deal effectively with the aftermath of a major disaster."

Bostic served as the Regional Manager for the Peace Corps in San Francisco since 1998. While he was with the Peace Corps he negotiated more than $755,000 worth of outdoor advertising and designed the Peace Corps marketing and public awareness campaign. Before working with the agency, he served as a small business volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, for two years in the late 80s.

Previously, Bostic worked for DJ Miller and Associates as a consultant to the U.S. Minority Business Development Agency, the 1996 Campaign for Clinton and Gore, 1997 Presidential Inaugural Committee as Operational and Logistics Manager and the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games as a program manager for the chairman's office. He has also served on various non-profit boards of directors and chaired or co-chaired sub-committees on fundraising, finance, programming, marketing and client and board member selection.

Bostic attended Georgia State University in Atlanta where he received an M.S. in Public Policy with a major in non-profit administration. He also holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps."
