Charles Creed Fulton
November 3, 1940 - July 31, 2005 Charles Creed Fulton, 64, died of Multiple Myeloma on July 31, 2005 at his home in Sonoita. Growing up in farm country as a preacher's son, he learned early to use brain and hands to become self reliant. After three years in the Army, his Magna Cum Laude degree from Michigan State University in History, Philosophy and Latin American Affairs reflected his diverse interests. Dear to him were two years spent living among the Aymara Indians in the Altiplano of Bolivia in the Peace Corps. He was an accomplished woodworker, an excellent cook and loved to bake bread.
He relished antelope sightings, the yearly visit of the vermillion flycatcher with the monsoons and building things from scratch, especially using adobe bricks he made himself. Family and friends will remember Charlie for his love of music, his quick wit his voracious appetite for learning and his expansive knowledge. A contemplative person, he thought in terms of duty to humanity, compassion, honor, empathy, forbearance and lived his daily life according to those values. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Mae Esak Fulton, M.D.; daughter, Anne M. Fulton Cavett; son- in-law, Dan Cavett; son in spirit Adam De La Ossa; and the lights of his life; grandsons, Cayce Charles and Connor Creed Fulton Cavett.
He is also survived by sister, Marianne Fulton Johnson; and brothers, John Robert, William Hassel, and David Earle Fulton. Services for family will be held in Virginia and New Jersey. Memorial donations specified for Bolivia may be made to Habitat for Humanity International, Attn Gifts From The Heart 121 Habitat Street Americus, GA 31709-3498.

| Why blurring the lines puts PCVs in danger When the National Call to Service legislation was amended to include Peace Corps in December of 2002, this country had not yet invaded Iraq and was not in prolonged military engagement in the Middle East, as it is now. Read the story of how one volunteer spent three years in captivity from 1976 to 1980 as the hostage of a insurrection group in Colombia in Joanne Marie Roll's op-ed on why this legislation may put soldier/PCVs in the same kind of danger. |
| The Peace Corps Library Peace Corps Online is proud to announce that the Peace Corps Library is now available online. With over 30,000 index entries in 500 categories, this is the largest collection of Peace Corps related stories in the world. | Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
