HOLYOKE - Holyoke Community College has tapped Longmeadow telecommunications consultant W. Geoffrey Little to serve as acting vice president for business and community affairs.
Little, 57, who started his new job yesterday, is also the acting executive director of the school's new Kittredge Business Center. He replaces Dr. Paul E. Raverta, who resigned this summer after 31 years at the college to become interim president of Berkshire Community College.
"Geoff is highly regarded and brings a wealth of business community connections to HCC," HCC President William F. Messner, said in a statement yesterday. "His familiarity with the region's businesses and economic development needs will be a great asset."
The 55,000-square-foot Kittredge Business Center, set to open in January, will house the World Institute for Strategic Economic Research, the regional Massachusetts Export Center, and HCC's Business Division.
Little's resume includes two decades of work-force development and business analysis in the region. He has served as president of the Telitcom Development Corp., vice president of sales and market development for the Equal Access Networks, and vice president and district manager for Continental Cablevision.
A graduate of Colby College and a Peace Corps volunteer in Panama and India, Little has most recently been a consultant for Springfield Technical Community College. He has also consulted for the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority, the Economic Development Council of Western Mass. and the National Center for Telecommunications Technology.
"It's an exciting time to come on board with the Kittredge Business Center opening so soon," Little said yesterday.
"I'm delighted to play a part in an initiative that cements the college's role in helping Western Massachusetts' businesses evolve and adapt in an increasingly global environment," he said. He predicted the Kittredge Center would play a key role in the region's work force development, especially in the emerging technologies.
Little's acting appointment is through June 30, 2006, but he said he hopes to be considered for the permanent spot when a search committee begins its work in a few months. His salary was not available yesterday

 | Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
