Country of Service: Marshall Islands

Training Group: Micro 8

Cities you served in: Lae Village on Lae Atoll

Arrival Year: 1969

Departure Year: 1971

Work Description: Teaching English as Second Language

Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:

Returned to Marshall Islands in 1975 stayed until 1978, then spent 3
years on the Navajo Reservation, 1 year in Guyana, and again
returned to Marshall Islands in early 1984. Just left the Marshall
Islands in summer of 2000 and now am in Hilo, Hawai'i with my two
children.

Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:

Great opportunity to learn another language and culture in a very,
very isolated part of the world. I was adopted by a family in 1969 and
returned and lived with them from 1975 to 1978. We received field
trip ships every 3 to 4 months which was my only contact with the
rest of the world. We had a short wave radio but the majority of the
time it did not work. Learned to live very, very simply, with bascially
no contact with the rest of the world, and loved village life.

Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:

Sally Clark, Micro 8 too
