I am from Abonnema in Nigeria. The picture on this website is not one taken from Abonnema given the mode of dressing. I believe there is a mix-up somewhere. I could say it was taken in the North of Nigeria given the features in the picture. I will be grateful if the picture is replaced with one from my city

Thanks

Dear Mr. Pedro,

Thank you for your comment. You are indeed correct. The photo at the top of this web page was not taken from Abonnema. "Peace Corps Online" has over 10,000 unique entries in our directories for over 120 Countries of Service. There are even more locations than that since many Volunteers served in two or more locations. Some countries of service have hundreds of Directory entries. In many cases, the locations where Peace Corps Volunteers served are small and there are no public domain photos available for them. Since it would be unfair to provide unique photos for some locations and not for others, "Peace Corps Online" has elected to use a generic photo for each Country of Service so in most cases the photo you see will not correspond to the exact location of the Directory entry on the page.

Peace Corps Online

Be that as it may, we were able to find a photo with an example of the mode of dressing in Abonnema with this photo of Agbani Darego, who comes from Abonnema. She is shown with her father and other friends and relatives after winning the title of Miss Nigeria in 2001. Miss Darego went on to become Miss World in 2001.

Best Regards,
