Country of Service: Central African Republic

Training Group: South Carolina and Bukavu Ag Volunteers

Cities you served in: Yongoro Bolaye (near Bouar) and Bayanga

Arrival Year: 1988

Departure Year: 1992

Work Description:

Beekeeper in the Nana Mambere area; Conservation work in the Dzanga Sangha Dense Forest Reserve

Bring us up to date on your life after the peace corps:

I became and anthropologist; my husband Arun Agrawal and I are both teaching and doing research about environment and development issues

Any thoughts you have now looking back on peace corps days?:

I learned more about myself and the world than I could ever have done otherwise; also learned how to live.

Anyone you are looking for or would like to hear from?:

Yon Makino...I need his permission to reproduce his handrawn map of Bayanga in one of my publications!

Any message for returned volunteers?:

Just shouts out to all; keep teaching, however you can, so that the War Corps doesn't end up trumping what we learned about how to serve this country for Peace!
