Hello:
I am an attorney with the non-profit Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center in Miami. I currently represent a 17 y.o. Guatemalan orphan here in the United States. He and his two younger siblings were orphaned by both of his parents and lived subsequently in two different domestic violence situations (one with older sister and abusive husband; the other with a cousin and her abusive husband). The child eventually fled, seeking protection in the United States. I am concerned that the child, especially given his age, really has no viable options for protection and care in Guatemala.

I am very interested in speaking with anyone regarding Guatemala’s child welfare system. Would you have any suggestions? Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

Deborah Lee
