Hi Beatriz,
I was one of the PC volunteers that was moved from Argentina in 1994. First of all, the PC administration in Washington DC under-estimated the cost of hosting a program in Argentina. Secondly, they could not seem to staff the required positions in country; we had no director or medical officer in Argentina. That was the key reason the program was closed.
It was a regrettable situation, with horrible timing. I had completed about 6 months of my service in the altiplano, and the community there had just begun to believe that I was committed to being with them for 2 full years. Right after that, we got notice to report to Buenos Aires and were transferred out to other countries. I was sent to Chile, but my Aregentina community suggested that I slip back across the border to continue living with them. Sometimes I wish I had.
