Doyle hits the campaign trail for Barak Obama
A snow storm prevented Gov. Jim Doyle from traveling to Chicago on Tuesday to be with Barack Obama to watch vote results come in. But the governor planned to be back on the campaign trail for the Illinois senator’s presidential bid on Wednesday, said Obama’s spokesman Dan Leistikow. Details about where Doyle would be working for Obama weren’t immediately released. He spent Monday campaigning for him in Kansas. Doyle had planned to be with Obama at his campaign headquarters in Chicago, but he canceled due to a predicted snow storm, Leistikow said. Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and his wife served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Tunisia in the 1960's.

MADISON— A snow storm prevented Gov. Jim Doyle from traveling to Chicago on Tuesday to be with Barack Obama to watch vote results come in.
But the governor planned to be back on the campaign trail for the Illinois senator’s presidential bid on Wednesday, said Obama’s spokesman Dan Leistikow.
[Excerpt]
Details about where Doyle would be working for Obama weren’t immediately released. He spent Monday campaigning for him in Kansas. Doyle had planned to be with Obama at his campaign headquarters in Chicago, but he canceled due to a predicted snow storm, Leistikow said.
Obama’s campaign organized 11 parties across Wisconsin to watch the Super Tuesday results. U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, planned to attend one in Madison at a restaurant across the street from the Capitol.
Abercrombie has been campaigning for Obama across the country and was spending all day Tuesday in Madison, Leistikow said.
Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are vying for the Democratic nomination. Even after Tuesday’s results, neither is expected to have a lock on the nomination.
That means Wisconsin’s primary on Feb. 19 is expected to be hotly contested. Television ads and candidate appearances in the state could start at any time once the campaigns pull money and resources out of the Super Tuesday states.
A spokesman for the Clinton campaign in Wisconsin did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
| What is the greatest threat facing us now? "People will say it's terrorism. But are there any terrorists in the world who can change the American way of life or our political system? No. Can they knock down a building? Yes. Can they kill somebody? Yes. But can they change us? No. Only we can change ourselves. So what is the great threat we are facing? I would approach this differently, in almost Marshall-like terms. What are the great opportunities out there - ones that we can take advantage of?" Read more. |
