Panama Indigenous: Yankee Go Home
The Panamanian Ng ñbe Bugle indigenous community decided to request that the US Peace Corps leave their territories, confirmed Pedro Rodriguez, leader of that aboriginal people.
Rodriguez explained that the measure was adopted in that region's general congress, considering that the US organization was not beneficial in any way to its population, media reports said on Friday.
He also said the agreement approved was not to renew a five-year contract with Peace Corps that was almost expired.
The community is not satisfied with the presence of the Peace Corps and prefers that they leave the region, because five years have gone by "and I have seen little or nothing in the interest of the regional development," said Rodriguez.
He said that around 60 members of that US entity have only studied the customs and traditions of the ethnic group to make presentations about them in other countries.
The Ng ñbe Bugle region occupies a vast and rich territory in the country's western area, with a Caribbean coastline.

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
