Kinky puts his Austin home on the market

The Mountainclimb house has 2,342 square feet, four bedrooms and 21/2 bathrooms, and it's filled with Kinky memorabilia. A Web site, www.kinkysaustinhome.com, features a signed letter from Kinky and says that "Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Willie, Eric Clapton, Ringo and Jimmy Buffett" have visited the home. "I think I absorbed some of the peace and rustic beauty of the surroundings" while growing up there, Kinky writes. "The house is redolent of old-Austin charm, yet it's nestled right in the heart of some of the most sought-after real estate in the city." And for anyone who's willing to buy it, Kinky has this to say: "May it be a happy home to you as it has been to me over the years, and may it shelter your dreams." Author, Musician, and candidate for Governor of Texas, Kinky Friedman served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malaysia in the 1960's.

For years, Kinky Friedman has used his parents' home in Northwest Hills as his Austin base of operations. But times change, his parents have passed away, and he has put the house on the market for $500,000.

The house, at 6006 Mountainclimb Drive, is listed with Bob Wolk and Sharon Downer, who are affiliated with Keller Williams Realty.

"His parents bought the house about 45 years ago, as best as Kinky can remember," says Wolk, "and Kinky always stayed there when he was in town."

But the main home for the singer-songwriter, novelist and sometimes-politician is the Echo Hill Ranch in Medina, which his parents bought shortly after the family moved to Texas when Kinky was a child.

Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Date: October 27 2007 No: 1206 Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act
Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them."

What is Wrong at the US Embassy in Bolivia? Date: February 10 2008 No: 1227 What is Wrong at the US Embassy in Bolivia?
Last summer Peace Corps Inspector General David Kotz cited the lack of cooperation from the US embassy in Bolivia in the search for missing Peace Corps Volunteer Walter Poirier III. Now a member of the US Embassy Staff in Bolivia is accused of asking Peace Corps Volunteers "to basically spy" on Cubans and Venezuelans in the country. Could US Ambassador Philip S.Goldberg please explain what is going on at the embassy that he has been running in La Paz since 2006?
