Pat Waak remains uncommitted delegate

Pat Waak remains uncommitted delegate

One thought is that waiting will make sure that Colorado elected officials have a friend in the White House. By declaring too soon, if one of the candidates is elected President, there could be hard feelings toward those who supported the other candidate. Pat Waak, Chairman of the Democratic Party in Colorado, served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Brazil in the 1960's.

DENVER -- Four Colorado Superdelegates have lined up with each of the Democratic candidates.

Hillary Clinton has landed Rep. Diana DeGette, and party officials Mannie Rodriguez, Ramona Martinez, and maria Handley.

Barack Obama picked up Rep. Ed Perlmutter, and party officials J.W. Postal, Dan Slater, and Debbie Marquez.

Another six Superd's--Governor Bill Ritter, Senator Ken Salazar, Reps. John Salazar and Mark Udall along with party officials Pat Waak and Roy Romer remain uncommitted.

It's likely they have decided to wait until the Democratic rank and file have had their say during the primary and caucus races still being held across the nation.

One thought is that waiting will make sure that Colorado elected officials have a friend in the White House.

By declaring too soon, if one of the candidates is elected President, there could be hard feelings toward those who supported the other candidate.

What is exciting about the campaign is that states normally not in play are this time around. There are about 300 superdelegates who have committed out of a total of 796 and Clinton leads Obama by almost 2-to-1 ratio.

Of the total, 411 are rank and file party members, local activists and workers. They do not have the symbolic stature of a John Kerry or Ted Kennedy, but their votes count the same.

With many elected officials getting campaign donations from the two candidates, the rest of the delegates are being lobbied hard.

Some report getting threats and strong-arm tactics from both sides. No matter, the superd's will be in play as it looks as if neither candidate will get the needed number of delegates to win before the national convention here in Denver this August.

If that is the case, expect delegates to switch and candidates to be working the floor looking for the magic number needed to win the nomination.

Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Date: October 27 2007 No: 1206 Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act
Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them."

What is Wrong at the US Embassy in Bolivia? Date: February 10 2008 No: 1227 What is Wrong at the US Embassy in Bolivia?
Last summer Peace Corps Inspector General David Kotz cited the lack of cooperation from the US embassy in Bolivia in the search for missing Peace Corps Volunteer Walter Poirier III. Now a member of the US Embassy Staff in Bolivia is accused of asking Peace Corps Volunteers "to basically spy" on Cubans and Venezuelans in the country. Could US Ambassador Philip S.Goldberg please explain what is going on at the embassy that he has been running in La Paz since 2006?
