Whether Jeremiah Johnson wants to believe it or not, HIV is a contagious, communicable disease. A simply papercut can draw enough blood to transfer the disease from one person to another. Accidents happen. Jeremiah Johnson cannot prevent every possible accident that might draw his blood, from papercuts, to scratches, to bleeding wounds. The Peace Corps does not have the resources to adequately treat Jeremiah or anyone he may come in contact with if he accidently drew blood overseas.

HIV is an incurable disease. The Peace Corps must weigh the health and safety of the populations to which they administer along with the dignity of the Peace Corps Volunteers.

This lawsuit is ridiculous. This is an adolescent response to a very real, adult problem. Jeremiah Johnson needs to put his Peace Corps dreams on the shelf and volunteer for a charitable organization that administers to HIV positive populations overseas.
He would not be a threat there. He might do some good. All this lawsuit will get him is more pain and rejection. I can only hope that people would learn from this example.

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
