Patrick earned a BA in Speech Communication from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1989. Upon graduating, he entered volunteer service in the United States Peace Corps. As a volunteer he served two years as an agriculture extensionist in the rural village of San Jose de los Andes in the Central American nation of Honduras.
As an Ag volunteer, Patrick taught soil conservation and soil improvement. These practices were offered as an option to traditional slash and burn agriculture which rapidly decreases soil productivity.
From 1993 to 1994 he held a position teaching English as a foriegn language in Jakarta Indonesia. After completing this assignment, he traveled for one year throughout Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa.
Patrick is currently seeking a MS in soil science from Texas A&M University.
