Honduras offers natural scenic beauty and variety and a favorable climate in a semitropical setting. Peace Corps has enjoyed a long and proud history in Honduras. Over 5,000 men and women have served as Peace Corps Volunteers since the inception of the program in country in 1963.

The Peace Corps works in the areas of hillside farming and agriculture, child survival and health, economic development, management of protected areas, water and sanitation, and the newly created municipal development project. In 2000, Peace Corps Honduras piloted a successful series of volunteer and community training activities in the area of disaster preparedness and mitigation. Techniques are being implemented across the Peace Corps programs, and Volunteer efforts have been augmented by Crisis Corps Volunteers.
