Liza Konnert joins Peace Corps in El Salvador
Liza Konnert, daughter of Tom and Ellen Konnert of Menlo Park, recently began service as a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador, where she will work with municipal governments in rural regions. Assisting mayoral offices, Ms. Konnert will help develop programs that focus on strengthening relationships between citizens and their government, the Peace Corps reports.
A 1994 graduate of Castilleja High School in Palo Alto, Ms. Konnert received a bachelor's degree this year from New York University, with a focus on religion and language. During her college years, she worked in assisting Mexican immigrants upon their arrival in New York.
Since 1961, 155,000 Americans have served as Peace Corps volunteers, the agency reports. Today, 6,700 are at work in 77 countries.
