Louise Baldwin Assistant Director
Louise Baldwin is the Assistant Director of the International Center. She first joined the International Center as the Peace Corps Coordinator, then became Program Coordinator in 1991 and Assistant Director in 2000. Louise has a long-standing interest in other countries and other cultures.
As an undergraduate student at Bryn Mawr College, she majored in Anthropology, and also has a master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Michigan. She spent three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan, and afterwards travelled to a number of countries in Asia, including Pakistan, India, Nepal, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. She was also able to visit Taiwan a second time as part of a delegation of Foreign Student Advisors invited to offer seminars about study abroad. She has experience teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language, Anthropology, and Women's Studies.
As Assistant Director Louise coordinates the Center's programs and workshops for international students and scholars, including the orientation programs, and supervises the preparation of the orientation and program handouts the International Center distributes. Louise administers the international student/scholar health insurance programs, and supervises the health insurance advisor and billing coordinator. She also supervises the Peace Corps Coordinator, and work with students doing work-study jobs or internships at the International Center.
She is in charge of the Center's web page and the Center's database. Her e-mail address is probably familiar to many since she sends out weekly messages to students and scholars.
Louise is also active within the professional association NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and is particularly interested in the ways in which international educators can use technology to improve services to international students and scholars. She has given presentations at regional and national conferences on technology topics, and currently serves on the TECHsig national steering committee.
Louise enjoys meeting new students and scholars at Orientation and afterwards and welcomes students and scholar to the Center for any assistance they may need or simply to say hello.
